Bringing Happiness to the Holidays: Be Kind
Acts of kindness are performed in many different ways. Remember, generosity does not have a price tag but has value. So many times I hear people say, “I would like to do something but I cannot afford it” or “I just don’t have any spare time in my schedule.” There is always a way to give.
Here are a few ideas for simple ways to help others, create smiles, and spread kindness. After all, there’s something quite wonderful about making other people happy.
Smile at a stranger
Put change in an expired parking meter
Hold a door open for someone
If you are in a State that gets snow, surprise your neighbor and shovel for them
Collect books to give to a school or a shelter
Drop off dinner or groceries to an elderly friend or neighbor
Mentor someone, a child or an adult
Buy hats, scarves gloves from local thrift store launder them and donate to church, shelter or charity
Talk to older adults and listen to their life stories
Give a stranger a sincere compliment
Give a caregiver an hour or two break from their daily responsibilities
Sell something online and give the proceeds to charity
Use your air miles for someone who cannot afford to make it home for the holidays
Offer to babysit for a single Mom or Dad
Run an errand for a busy friend
Donate your event tickets to someone who could not afford to go
Bake holiday meal or treats for a family in need
Gather homemade, recycled or reclaimed Christmas decorations and give to a shelter or a family in need
Offer to take a shift for a worthy co-worker so that they can spend it with their children
Send Christmas cards to Soldiers who cannot be home with their families
